What is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

EMDR is a therapy technique that uses bilateral stimulation to lower the distress and symptoms caused by trauma and painful life events. Bilateral stimulation is gentle left and right movements, or taps, that help engage the brain. This mimics the brain activity that occurs during REM sleep, which is the brain's natural state in which it processes life events. Cool, huh?

In the therapy room, we will call forward a painful memory and allow your brain to reprocess difficult experiences and negative beliefs that feel stuck in the nervous system.

Before you leave the room, we will regulate and contain what we have worked on to be brought back up again in our next EMDR session.

Outside of the room, your brain will be open for integration. You may notice insights, new thoughts, recalled memories, and dreams that come forward.

Why do I offer EMDR? It is an empirically studied modality and I've experienced it myself. It helped me achieve a new level of peace so that I can feel more open to love, trust, and connection. It is truly amazing the healing your own brain can do. It is my job to help foster safety and containment.
